It's a huge improvement to the drivability of the car, and something the car should have some stock with. Not only is it very affordable, but it's very easy to install. The Perrin shift knob is a must have for the WRX. We've installed the Perrin shift stop, and after driving around with it, we've compiled our thoughts. It simply attaches on top of the gear shifter assembly, and after some quick adjustment, allows you to shift into first and second gear with ease, being perfectly lined up every time. The Perrin shifter stop is made with the high quality you'd expect from Perrin.

Luckily, this is easy to solve with the Perrin shift stop, a simple modification that can be installed in less than 30 minutes, but greatly improves the accuracy and feel of the WRX's shifter. For one, it's possible to push the gear lever too far to the left when shifting into 1st and 2nd gear. The stock shifter set up on the 2015+ Subaru WRX leaves some room for improvement. I didn't feel a big difference between the stock base level shifter and STI short shifter anyways.Disclosure: When you click links to the various merchants on this site, we may earn a commission if you make a purchase. Probably would total out less than the factory short shifter and feel much better. I'd go as far as saying to skip the STI short throw and just add in the Boomba plate, shift stop, bushing, and heavy knob and you're good to go.

A heavy knob might have helped some, but the Raceseng Orbature and weighted Boomba plate are a great match. I really had to give the shifter a hard shove to get into gear and it felt like work trying to row through the gears. I tried a Perrin before the Boomba and didn't like it at all. Not that they aren't well made, but the lack of counterweight makes the shift very notchy and not fun to drive. Made the car more fun to drive.ĭon't get the un-counterweighted shifter plates like Perrin or Kartboy. From neutral, it feels like it takes a tiny bit more effort to get into gear, but it was easy to get used to and now I love the feel of the shifter. 2-3 and 4-5 were also better than stock, but have a touch more notchy feel since you lose some momentum. Throws from 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 were very smooth and quick. My WRX came with the STI short throw and after those mods, the throws became much shorter and crisper.

I just recently installed the Boomba short shift plate on my 2017 WRX along with Perrin shift stop, Perrin brass bushing, and Raceseng Orbature heavy knob.
